About us

I am Gregory, the founder of Fab Origin.

I used to have a company which was selling high end home and decoration products. Our products were all made of natural materials : wood, stone, clay, marble… I always told to myself that it does not make sense to cut a tree or dig the ground to make bowl, boards or any other new  product. So I started to analyse local waste at our disposal here in Belgium checking if they could be transformed in a new material, a new ressource.

I realised that yearly 10 kg of textile are thrown away per inhabitant in Belgium. On average only 50% is reused or recycled, the other half is incinerated.

I decided to work with a research centre in Lille to find a use for those waste. We found an innovative way to rigidify textile waste by combining them with plastic waste. We used this material composed of at least 70% textile waste to produce first samples.

With my samples, I interviewed many people in the construction and interior decoration industry. The idea was to exchange about this new material and find a use for it. I received many suggestions and great feedbacks. Professionals like the fact that it is :

·        Circular material

·        Low carbon material

·        No use of water and very few energy in the production

·        The material is cool : good looking and easy to add texture (lines, squares, …)

·        Great story behind

Based on those feedbacks, I decided to launch a company with a clear and transparent mission statement.
